Opioid Use Disorder

Presentation Purpose: 
This presentation will provide insights into the myriad challenges faced by clinicains in managing patients with opioid use disorder. The presenter will discuss tools and factors to consider in the identification and assessment of persons with opioid use disorder. Treament principles, including the importance of patient collaboration, comprehensive treatment, and harm reduction will be reviewed. 
Learning Objectives: 
Upon completion of this activity participants should be able to: 
• Review epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, complications and evidence based          guidelines for management of opioid use disorder (OUD) 
• Review commonly used medications to assist with withdrawal and sobriety 
• Demonstrate increased awareness of the treatment of OUD 
• Identify barriers encountered in providing medication assisted treatment 
• Identify compliance issues before engaging in efforts to increase access to medication assisted treatment
